Writing a book to find right-fit clients is a team sport. Don’t go it alone.
If you are an ad, digital marketing, or PR agency owner who wants to write a book to find right-fit clients, beware trying it by your lonesome.
You could try the loner approach by renting a cabin in the mountains and not coming out until you have a manuscript. I call that the Misery approach (think Stephen King book and movie).
The same is true for business consultants, executive coaches, and high-end service business owners.
Getting published is too important a variable in the marketing success quotient to go it alone and be miserable.
Don’t let the excuse that you’re not a good writer prevent you from publishing a book.
A ghostwriter can take your rough notes, conversations, and ideas and turn them into something that’s polished and well-written.
However, there is a cost associated with ghostwriters.
Another option is a developmental editor. This type of editor is your teammate in the publishing process.
Developmental editors bring to the team experience, ideas, and writing skills. The editors are more than coaches and accountability partners.
This is brain power that helps you create a better book in a fraction of the time.
A successful consultant recently told me: “When I hired you, I thought you would take my thoughts and just turn them into something wonderful. But you didn’t do that. You worked with me to make them the best thoughts that could come from me. I see now that was the right thing to do. This book is my book, and it has been a lifelong dream to get it published.”
Your ability to present quality information and ideas is essential and can never be farmed out.
Your material should spark an “aha” in your readers and ignite them to reach greater heights.
If you can prompt someone else to succeed, then you will have succeeded, too.
